We Thank You, Lord

For peace that keeps our hearts soft in a raging world; for ferns unfurling in the forest damp; for a glance and smile across the aisle, we thank you, Lord.

For comfort that strengthens us in the face of fear; for ancient words that nestle deep; for moonlight’s caress in midnight hours, we thank you, Lord.

For love that perseveres in darkness; for hope that pulls us into courage; for faith that settles our restless souls, we thank you, Lord.

We are angry. Distracted. Weary and fearful. You are home. Safety. You lift our eyes to higher things; fill our souls with noble purpose; woo us back to Eden’s promise.

For unrecognized provisions that dog our steps; for unexpected friendship and unrealized sorrows; for heaven’s shining welcome just around the bend, we thank you, Lord.

For holy songs in hopeful voices; for cleansing taste of bread and wine; for quiet prayers and joyful declaration, we thank you, Lord.

We were unwound, undone, unmade in loud and lonely places. You are Immanuel. Counselor. Healing us with presence and truth. With unexpected beauty in fractured places.

For all these things and so many more, we thank you, Lord.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100
